Starting this evening and through next week, I’ll be taking a break my day-to-day life to focus on the 2008 Kansas International Film Festival, a film festival I help organize each year. While I may be out of the office, there’s a chance I’ll still be posting here though I strongly doubt the topic will eLearning.
As this blog isn’t explicitly focused on education technology, I don’t suppose a brief change in topic will be terribly bothersome, but for those reading only for education-related content, tough luck for the next week or so. Still, stay tuned, as we’ll return you to your regularly-scheduled programming shortly.
While Las Vegas seems to fueling most chatter on the web this weekend, I’m passing the time caring for a girlfriend recovering from oral surgery. No fun.
So in between supervising medication schedules and watching terrible daytime television, I am keeping an eye to the headlines and hoping something beyond autonomous personal robots comes out of CES. As well, I’ve taken a few minutes to update the design with a new theme for a new year (design credits at the footer). For those readers with keen eyesight, please let me know if you catch any glitches. As always, you can reach me at defitems[at]gmail[dot]com.
I just wanted to wish everyone happy holidays. I hope everyone has a good Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa/any-holiday-you-may-celebrate.

Once again I’ve stricken this blog with an unannounced extended absence, but this time it’s for good reason — not only have I graduated from university, but I’ve made my transition to a new job in the process.
While, for the time being, I’ll refrain from revealing my new employer I can tell you it’s a tech-related position in the education industry. The new position allows me to work hands on with faculty at a world-renowned educational institution, but also to explore some of the emerging technologies that have captivated my personal interests in recent times.
One of the topics that I’ve listed in the “About” section of the blog, yet never really written much about, is Second Life. With the ridiculous amount of hype surrounding the virtual world, I’ve never felt much of a need to contribute to a conversation that I felt was over-saturating the blogosphere in the first place. Well, that time may be coming to an end as there is a very real possibility that this new position may entail working directly in the Second Life environment.
So, in short, I’m back. In length, the conversation continues with the possibility of new topics in the very near future…stay tuned.

I just wanted to post a quick update to let everyone know that I have returned from a fantastic vacation to London and Reykjavik. It was a wonderful time and I have posted pics to my flickr page. More updates soon.

The end of this weeks marks my travels, over the next two weeks, to London and Reykjavik. I couldn’t be more excited, as Iceland is my top travel destination at the moment and the U.K. is not far behind. Ten days of travel for pleasure only, no business allowed. That said, I intend to return with loads of video and photographs and, though I don’t intend on blogging while I’m there, I do plan to journal along the way, so perhaps those writing will make their way here as well. So long for now, see you all soon…

So, I finally made the transition to my own domain. My first unrestricted space to play. And as always, you’re all invited to come along. This is the new defitems.com, my little hole-in-the-wall that looks out over the information superhighway. We sure have come a long way since geocities and juno.
Anyway, please leave suggestions, tips, and advice as to how this little blog can be best for all of us.
P.S. for any interested feed-readers out there, feel free to subscribe to my feedburner feed to get the goodness brought straight to your door.

I just wanted to take a moment to build on David Armano’s post over at Logic + Emotion entitled “Friends of Gavin.” He has sent out a call-to-action on behalf Servant of Chaos blogger Gavin Heaton, whose father was struck by a car a few days ago. Please check out the originating posts as any support would be appreciated.

The year is almost over. Any number of bloggers, podcasters, journalists, movie critics, and the like are making their year-in-review lists and their predictions for 2007 and I’m feeling depressed about my lack of involvement in almost anything that happened this year.
There have been a lot of things changing for me and I’m about to head in a new direction - personally and professionally - and I intend on making full use of this blog and transitioning it into a much more important role in the not-so-distant future.
On the professional side I’m narrowing my focus in the coming months - New Marketing, Social Networking, Marketing Commentary, Wikis, Blogs, Podcasts and a whole lot of questions regarding these topics will be presented here. On the personal side I’m finishing school. The first long haul is over and I’m completely confused about what the future holds. Where am I going and How do I get there?
If anything is abundantly clear by now it’s that I am in no way an expert on anything. I don’t have twenty years in business or Doctorate on any subject. I’m learning. And I can’t think of a better way to learn then to join the conversation.
I don’t have a great background, I don’t have a great job, I don’t have a clear vision for the future and that’s what makes me unique. How do I find my way? I intend on documenting my path here and maybe others can learn along with me.
Please leave comments, advice, links, and suggestions.
