This weekend (9.14-9.20) begins the 2007 Kansas International Film Festival, a festival I spend a portion of each year working on. It’s a decent year, we’re bringing in avant-garde filmmaker Guy Maddin and Troma schlock-horror master Lloyd Kaufman, as well as a fantastic lineup of narrative and documentary indies from around the world.
The festival takes place every year in Overland Park, KS, a suburb of Kansas City. Not to be confused with hollywood-ized film fests like Sundance, KIFF is a true independent film festival for independent filmmakers and fans. A lot of work is put into making sure filmmakers and fans aren’t segregated but have complete access each other.
The Think! documentary series is one of the most acclaimed portions of the fest each year, featuring social issue docs that run the gamut of personal to political struggle, locally and internationally.
My intention isn’t to pitch anything on my blog, but to help get the word out about what’s up. For any film fans in the area, you can find more details here and a list of films can be found after the jump.
