This round of graduations are finally over and I could not be more excited. Hours upon hours staring at people I couldn't care less about for 45 seconds of cheering for the few that I do.
Last night was particularly confusing to me, however, as I was just getting nestled into my painfully uncomfortable stadium seat when a graduating senior stepped to the mic to perform that old favorite — the Star-Spangled Banner. Strangely, though, when the entire audience turned to face the flag and patriotically raise their hands to their artery-clogged hearts, what lowered from the ceiling? None other than a video screen, upon which a projected American Flag soon materialized.
We have officially reached a certified stage of lunacy when rather than spending the hard-donated cash on a real-life piece of patriotic fabric, we instead invest it into a multi-million dollar public address and audio/video platform. Congrats graduates and welcome to the real post-modern world.
